FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Considering hiring snow removal contractor? Here are the most frequently asked questions to help you make an informed decision.

1Where does Habiterra operate in Gatineau?
We service Hull (Plateau, Birch Manor and Val-Tétreau).
2What are the start and end dates of your contract?
From November 15 to March 31
3Minimum snowfall requirement?
As a general guideline, our snow removal operations typically begin when approximately 5 cm or more of snow has accumulated on the ground during the same weather event. For snowfall events of 10 cm or less, one visit is generally sufficient to complete the clearing. During heavier or prolonged snowfall events, our tractors may perform multiple passes or return at different times to ensure safe and effective snow removal.
4Do you remove the snowbanks left by the City of Gatineau snowplows?
Yes, during our snow removal operations. Our initial pass is usually completed before the City starts clearing the side streets. We then make a final cleaning after the city completed clearing the streets.
5Is your 5 cm minimum cumulative (over days or even weeks)?
No. The approximate 5 cm threshold is based on the snow accumulation present on the ground during the same weather event. Snow accumulations occurring over multiple days are not combined to determine when service will begin. The timing of service is determined by our team based on weather conditions, the progression of precipitation, and operational considerations.
6Is there a cap on the amount of annual accumulation?
Yes, the maximum is stipulated in the annual contract.
7During a storm, will there be someone to answer the phone?
Yes, but we prefer to keep the phone for urgent matters. For a request for service, you can send us an email. Our snow removal operations updates are posted on our Website section "Snow Removal Operations".
8Will your tractors damage my driveway?
Snow blowing with a tractor is the safest method of clearing your driveway. Despite its large size, the tractor distributes its weight across oversized tires, resulting in lower ground pressure than that of an average car. The attachments are carefully calibrated to float just above the surface, minimizing the risk of damage. All of our tractors are fitted with anti-scratch blades, helping to protect surfaces. Despite all the precautions taken, there may be rare instances where the equipment leaves marks.
9A vehicle is parked in my driveway. Will your operator knock on my door to ask me to move it?
In order to provide a timely and well-organized service, our operators are unable to request the removal of parked vehicles by knocking on doors. Doing so would compromise the efficiency of our routes and cause significant delays.
10If it is icy, do you spread salt or any traction increasing materials?
Sanding is not included in our services.
11What time will you clear my driveway?
For accumulations of 10 cm or less, a single visit is usually sufficient to complete the snow removal. However, during heavier or prolonged snowfall, our equipment may need to make multiple passes or operate at different times throughout the day. In these situations, some delays may occur as operations are adjusted according to conditions, similar to municipal snow removal services.
